How to Spend a Winter's Day with the Kids

23 December 2019

What does your perfect Winter day look like? We've put together some ideas for the ideal way to spend a Winter's day with you and your little ones over the festive season. From making slime to a rambling winter walk, there's no need to stay indoors with the television on...

Bake something sweet...

Get into the festive spirit with some imaginative baking! Holiday gingerbread people are a tremendously tasty crowd pleaser; the whole family will want to get involved.

Tried and tested by the SuperCamps team, why not start with Jamie Oliver's delicious gingerbread recipe....With a simple recipe, quick cooking time and easy decoration, your little ones will have their gingerbread people lined up and ready to eat in no time:

Go Outside....

One of our most-loved activities on camp are nature walks! Wrap up warm, breathe in the crisp cold air and adventure outdoors with the kids to discover the world around you. Perhaps there’s a robin on the compost bin, a blackbird in the bushes or a frosty puddle of ice down a lane. For inspiration, check out BBC’S ‘Winterwatch’ page, exploring the wildlife that can be seen during these cold months:

Make festive slime...

Who doesn’t love slime? Our ho-ho homemade slime will fulfil your little one’s slime desires with hours of messy, imaginative fun. To make your festive slime, simply mix 100ml of PVA white glue with ½ tsp of bicarbonate of soda, add your chosen colour of food colouring and 2tbs of saline solution (contact lens solution) and mix! You should see your slime ball begin to form before your eyes. For an extra bit of holiday magic, we enjoyed adding sequins and glitter to give it some sparkle.

Wind down with a Winter Read...

After a busy day of wintertime fun, cuddle up with a storybook and mugs of hot chocolate. There's so many fantastic children's books for this time of year to choose from but our current favourite is the brilliantly funny 'Mince Spies'. Following the story of Mince Pie Spies on a mission to uncover the culprits destorying the festive treats found in supermarkets, children can get lost in a fantasty world of puff- pastry jetpacks, shortcrust walkie-talkies and squirty whipped cream...
